Shed Media Scotland has kicked off filming on Sugartown, a new prime-time three-part drama series for BBC One. Currently being filmed on location in Filey, Scarborough, the show will revolve around a small seaside hamlet in the north of England which once boasted the reputation of the ‘stick-of-rock’ capital of Britain.
Boasting a high profile cast: Sue Johnston, Shaun Dooley, Tom Ellis, Miranda Raison and Philip Jackson, the series shows the story of Burr’s rock factory owner Jason Burr (Shaun Dooley), who’s fighting to keep his business afloat. To throw a spanner in the works, his brother/the prodigal son Max (Tom Ellis) returns with plans to re-develop Sugartown, getting rid of buckets and spades in favour of boutique hotels and trendy bars.
Created and written by Jodi Reynolds and Sally Dexter, the Shed Media Scotland production will document the tight knit community of Sugartown’s fight to retain its traditions alongside evolving dance studios and plans for destruction.
